It’s spring! It feels like Toronto changed overnight into flowers, sunshine, blue skies and no jackets. I’ve been hibernating for the past few weeks, but no more. As I step out of my cocoon, I have lots of great show announcements to share with you.
I’m really ecstatic to announce that I was accepted to play a showcase for NXNE! This will be my first time as a performer in the festival and I can’t wait to be a part of it. Come out to hear a new song and bop your head to the favourites.
In other news, Robb and I have been working on a duo set that we will be debuting on May 19 at the Holy Oak. We’ll be opening the night for Michael Tobin (a former band member and stellar composer/musician) and Jos Fortin (delicately beautiful singer/songwriter).
I will also be starting a monthly residence at the Tranzac in June that will run the first Wednesday of the month (except July) for the summer and maybe beyond. I’m particularly excited about this set of shows because of all the great acts I’ll be able to invite along. June will feature Lisa Ribout as the opener. This immensely talented woman fronts the band 10,000 Hours but will be playing acoustic material for everyone. Robb and I will reprise our duo set for this show.
And finally, this Saturday I’m singing at Poetry Jazz Cafe in Kensington. Material includes, but is not limited to, Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper Experiment and D’Angelo. This will be my first gig singing soul and I’ve been busting my ass for the last month and a half to make sure I do it justice. Come out for a drink and some baby makin’ music this Saturday.
Be on the lookout for Facebook events for exact timing and cover chargers for the shows above. More info can also be found in my “Shows” section.
